When I got started selling books on the Internet, I went to a Rotary Club book sale. You could offer whatever you wanted for a book. I decided to buy only hard cover books that day. I bought 80 books for $40.00. A few days later, I sold Birds of New Mexico for $150.00, so I got several times my investment on that one book. MY 50 CENTS INCREASED 300 TIMES! I WAS CONVERTED!
My wife asked me why I wanted to tell others how to sell books on the Internet. She thought it would give me competition. I told her that the Market is so huge that there is room for many more dealers. Also, I don't want to expand my business. I store between 5000 and 6000 books, just enough to pay my real estate taxes and car insurance and such. I'm retired and don't want to spend more than about one hour a day to earn about $5000.00 each year. I could earn more if I were more selective about the books I buy and I looked for valuable books. But I just pick them up at garage sells and estate sells, etc. I have a friend who never sells a book for less than $8.00. He's been in the business a long time and makes lots of money. I'd rather go fishing.
